Cletus Mergy

November 30, 1944 — April 3, 2016

Cletus Carl “Buzz” Mergy, age 71, passed away at home on Sunday, April 3, 2016. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio, the son of Cletus John Mergy and Mary Ellen Zimbelman Mergy on November 30, 1944 at Mercy Hospital in Hamilton. He attended Saint Joseph’s and Queen of Peace Grade Schools, graduated from Hamilton Catholic High School and Miami University. On September 20, 1967 he enlisted in the United States Army where he served in Korea from May 1968 thru March 1969 and completed his tour of duty at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. as SP4 on September 1, 1973. He was an acomplished trombone player during high school and actually played 1st Chair in The Cincinnati Symphonic Orchestra during the summer of 1963. He enjoyed driving through and hiking the parks searching for any friendly wildlife. The atmosphere of the casinos captivated him and he was quite knowledgeable of the Black Jack Game. He was thrilled with sports of all sorts. Christmas was his favorite holiday to celebrate with his family. He is survived by his siblings, Mary Ann (Daniel) Watkins, Margaret “Marge” Mergy and Thomas (Kathy) Mergy; ten nieces and nephews, Steven (Shannon) Watkins, Susan (Matt) Karras, Michael (Missy) Watkins, Angela (Jeff) Huber, Rebecca (Mike) Heinze, Matthew (Alexis) Watkins, Jeffrey (Chelsea) Mergy, Scott Mergy, David (Sarah) Mergy and Greg (Emily) Mergy; fourteen great nieces and nephews, Sarah, Sadie, Austin, Aaron, Andy, Luke, Lexey, Alex, Kyle, Caitlin, Delaney, Liam, Jacob and Nathan and one aunt, Mildred Mergy. He was preceded in death by his parents and great niece, Amberly. The family would like to thank Dr. Chad Fogt and The Fresenius Dialysis Center for their compassionate care. Visitation is private, however, the family requests everyone to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, April 8, 2016 at 11:00 am at Queen of Peace Catholic Church presided by Father Jim Wedig. Burial will follow at St. Stephens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Queen of Peace Catholic Churcn.
