Herbert Hill

Herbert LeRoy Hill, 92, died Friday,December 13, 2013 at Ft. Hamilton Hospital in Hamilton, Ohio following a brief illness.
He leaves his wife of 38 years, Gladys Hill and 7 children, Nanette Lewis, Ned Hill, Beth & Preacher Couch, Gail Hess, Greg Couch, Jo & Bob Hutsenpiller, Herb Hill/ Amanda Mineer, 16 grandchildren, Amber Lewis, Richard Lewis, Sam Lewis, Nichelle Gordon, Joe Couch, Jon Couch, Rob Couch, Angie & George Crawford, Corey Couch, Aaron Couch, Alana Steele, Samantha Steele, Chris & Stephanie Risner, Stacy Weist, Nick Hutsenpiller, Megan, Megan Hutsenpiller, great grandchildren, Hunter Couch, Rob Couch, Haylie Owens, Lathan Couch, Liam Lewis, Mckenna Lewis, Hadley Lewis, Grace Risner, Caleb Risner and many close friends. Mr. Hill is preceded in death by sister, Francis Rentchlar, brothers, Albert Hill & Paul Hill and daughter, Vonda Weist.

Born on November 12th 1921, in Billingsville, Indiana, son of Herbert & Alberta Hill.
In his early years, Mr. Hill would sell newspapers on the street corner in Hamilton for 3 cents. His take 3/4 of a cent for each paper sold. After graduating Hamilton High School in 1939 he joined the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946 and became 1st Class Cook for 87 men on the U.S. Cero 225 Submarine in World War II. Upon returning to the States, Mr. Hill bought Hornungs Meat Market on Court Street in Hamilton and Hornungs Slaughter House in New Miami. Later after selling his business he began work at Hamilton Provisions for the next 20 years where he retired at the age of 85.
Mr Hill had a passion about his work and owned a farm in Somerville where he raised cattle but for relaxation he owned a plane and flew out of Hogan’s Airport in Hamilton usually at night and after a long day at work.
The family would like to thank Dr. Davin and the entire staff at Ft. Hamilton Hospital that took wonderful care of their loved one during the last 4 weeks of his life.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 17, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Colligan Funeral Home, 437 S 3rd Street, Hamilton. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at the funeral home. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
