John Patrick “Pat” Malone, age 88, a lifetime resident of Hamilton, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2010, at Hospice of Hamilton. Pat was born in Hamilton on July 3, 1922, the eldest of three sons born to John Gordon and Helen (Wolke) Malone.He was a 1940 graduate of Hamilton High School. He entered the United States Army during WW II and served His country with honor from 1941-1946. On September 10, 1947 he married Helen Louise “Patty” Irwin and to this union three children were born. Pat was a member of St. Mary Church until it was closed and then he became a member of St. Ann Church. Pat had been employed with Western States for a short time before his employment at General Motors where he was employed as a payroll auditor from 1947 until retirement in 1984. After retirement, he taught driver’s traninig with Lou Florio and worked for the Hamilton Safety Council. An avid sportsman, Pat was a 25 year member of the Butler County Football Assoc. and refreed many high school football games; he was very active with Hamilton Catholic/Badin High School Football with his brother, Terry; involved in Lindenwald Little League and Babe Ruth Teams where he had served as a board member of the association; he had coached the West Side Federal Phillies, Lindenwald Little League Teams and the Coca-Cola White Socks.Mr. Malone was a lifetime member of the BPOE (Elk’s) #93 and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He and Patty lived in the same house in Lindenwald, raising their children and grandchildren since October 1947. Survived by wife of 63 years, Patty Malone; three children, Dennis (Mary) Malone, Jim (Julie) Malone and Mary Karen (Jeff) Eyl: grandchildren, Mike (Joey) Malone, Joe (Meagan) Malone, Amy (Jerry) Townsend, Bryan Malone, Chris, Sarah, Adam and Nicholas Eyl and six great grandchildren; brother, Terry Malone, nieces nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen: brother, Richard “Dick” Malone; Dick’s wife, Ruth and Terry’s wife, Betty. Prayer services 9:15 AM Thursday at Colligan Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Thursday at Sacred Heart Church. Burial with Military Services at St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hamilton High School Football Field, Raising the Bar,C/0 the Hamilton Community Foundation or Badin High School.
