Joseph Fredrick Miller Jr., passed away on Monday, June 29, 2020 at the age of 84, with his wife by his side. Joe was born on April 15, 1936 in Hamilton, OH to Joseph H. Miller and Marian (Barber) Miller. He attended St. Peter in Chains Grade School and graduated from Hamilton Catholic High School. He continued his education at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida where he received a sports scholarship. During his four years at Rollins College, the golf team was undefeated in match play. He served as captain of the golf team in 1957 and 1958. Additionally, Joe proudly served his country with the United States Army. He is survived by his beloved wife, Melba (Laney) Miller; two daughters, Krissan (Miller) Flum and Jodie (Miller) Baga; two sons-in-law, David Flum and Ed Baga Jr.; six grandchildren, Megan (Matt) Hessling, Emily (Jeff) Wolf, Elizabeth Flum, Nathan Baga, Jacob Baga and Andrew Baga; and three great-grandchildren, Madilyn Hessling, Finnley Hessling and Bowen Hessling. Joe was preceded in death by both parents, brother, Gerald H. Miller sister, Marilyn Miller, and numerous relatives. He was co-owner of Miller Buick Auto Sales - a successful dealership located in downtown Hamilton for many years. Joe was a kind, mild - mannered gentleman who loved all sports - especially golf ! For more than three decades, he was the premier golfer in Butler County. Throughout his life, he won numerous championship titles and earned a large collection of trophies. Joe won 4 City of Hamilton championship titles and was runner-up 7 times. His golf accolades also include 19 championship titles at the Elks Country Club. In 1973, he won the coveted Cincinnati Metropolitan Championship title. Additionally Joe qualified for the National Amateur in Tulsa, OK and was the low amateur when he played in the Buick Open in Detroit. On three different occasions, he reached the quarterfinals of the Ohio Amateur Championship Tournament. His local golf notoriety earned him inductions to the Butler County Sports Hall of Fame and the Stephen T. Badin High School Hall of Fame. A mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 6, 2020 at 10:00 AM at St. Ann Catholic Church, located at 646 Clinton Avenue, Hamilton, Ohio. Note: masks must be worn in the church. The family would like to give special recognition to the staff of the dementia unit at Golden Years Nursing Center for providing quality care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Ann Catholic Church or a charity of personal choice. Monday, July 6, 2020 10:00 AM
