Kathryn Rita “Kay” Dirk, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Berkeley Square in Hamilton. She was born on October 31, 1917, in Hamilton, the daughter of Florence (Hart) and Andrew Dirk. After graduating from Wilmington College, Kay began a 42 year career teaching in the Hamilton City Schools, starting at Harrison Elementary for two years, then teaching at Filmore Elementary for forty years. Kay touched the lives of thousands of children during her career and often spoke affectionately of her students. After her retirement, Kay travelled extensively, visiting Europe and the South Pacific. She was active in the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Xi. Kay was an avid bridge player, participating in many bridge clubs and tournaments. She is survived by cousins, Mary Jeanne Reimer (Charles Bauer), Donald H. Reimer (Claudia), Edmund “Skip” Parrott (Mary Lou), Sara Jane McDonald (Jay), Mary Lee Bauer (William) and numerous other other cousins. She leaves behind dear friends, Imogene and Tom Kramer and their family. She was preceded in death by her parents, and cousins, Jeanne Reimer (Hart), Elaine Cramer (Hart), Betty Newman (Hart), Thomas, Betty, Anne and James Taylor, Florence Parrott and Mary Cogan, Mary Elizabeth Myers, Kay Sharp and James Sharp. Visitation will be Monday, April 21, 2014 at St. Julie Billiart Church from 9:30 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. with Father Michael Pucke officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church or Hospice of Cincinnati (Hamilton Unit).
