Lois Friedlander

January 21, 1927 — March 10, 2017

What a gal ! Lois S. Friedlander, age 90, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017 at the home of her daughter, Robin, in Germantown, MD. Lois was born on January 21, 1927 in Cincinnati, OH to Ann & Harry Schloss and resided in Hamilton her entire life. She graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Sociology. During her years at Alabama, Lois served as President of her sorority and was also tapped for the prestigious honor of Mortar Board. Lois spent many summers as the Director of Camp Luella May where she made many lifelong friends and revealed her writing talents by composing the camp’s theme song.
On June 4, 1950, Lois married the love of her life, J. Morry Friedlander, and this romance lasted over 66 years until his death on June 13, 2016. Lois was extremely active in the community and spent countless hours volunteering to help others. She was President of Beth Israel Synagogue’s Sisterhood and also helped to write & edit the monthly newsletter for many years. She served as President of Senior Citizens, President of Planned Parenthood, and was chosen to be one of the YWCA’s “Women of the Year” for her many community contributions.
Lois along with her husband, Morry, enjoyed many of the same hobbies. They loved entertaining family and friends, cooking, traveling and tailgating before football games. They even performed a cooking demonistration at the famous Greenbrier and took professional cooking classes together. Their home was always open to everyone who knew them and no one ever left their house hungry. Traveling was another hobby that took them to many different parts of the United States where they developed many more friendships because of their outgoing & gregarious personalities. If anyone was ever in need, Lois & Morry were the first to offer help and support. As is evident, they were like “two peas in a pod” and shared a lifetime of love.
Lois’ life was well-lived, fulfilling and meaningful – a legacy to be carried on thru her children and grandchildren. She will forever be loved and missed by her two daughters, Robin (Bob) Dulli and Barbie (Randy) New; 3 grandchildren, Missy (Jason) Lawson, Zach (Stephanie) Dulli and Kelly Dulli; 6 great-grandchildren, Kaylin, Lauren & Finley Lawson and Max, Huck & Piper Dulli in addition to many relatives and friends.
Visitation will be at the Colligan Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 15, from 1:00-2:00 followed by the funeral service at 2:00. Burial will be in Beth Israel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
