Mary Mergy

March 30, 1919 — August 6, 2015

Mary Ellen, age 96, passed away at home on Thursday, August 6, 2015. She was born in Hamilton, Ohio, the daughter of Carl H. and Mary (Phillips) Zimbelman on March 30, 1919 at Mercy Hospital. Mary attended St. Peter in Chains Catholic Grade School and Notre Dame High School. On May 24, 1942 at St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church, she married Cletus John Mergy who preceded her in death on December 9, 1983. She has been a member of Queen of Peace Church for 60 years. She enjoyed working with fellow parishioners on the famous chicken dinners and worked as cafeteria manager with other ladies providing lunches for many Queen of Peace students. She was a meticulous homemaker and baker, noted for her Chocolate Cakes. Mary was a devoted wife, caring mother, grandmother and great grandma enjoying time with family and friends. She is survived by her children, Mary Ann (Daniel) Watkins, Cletus (Buzz) Mergy, Margaret (Marge) Mergy and Thomas (Kathy) Mergy; ten grandchildren, Steven (Shannon) Watkins, Susan (Matt) Karras, Michael (Missy) Watkins, Angela (Jeff) Huber, Rebecca (Mike) Heinze, Matthew (Alexis) Watkins, Jeffrey (Chelsea) Mergy, Scott Mergy, David (Sarah) Mergy and Gregory (Emily) Mergy; fourteen great grandchildren, Sarah, Sadie, Austin, Aaron, Andy, Luke, Lexey, Alex, Kyle, Caitlin, Delaney, Liam, Jacob and Nathan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers, Carl A. Zimbelman and Merle Zimbelman and great grandchild, Amberly. The family would like to thank her compassionate care givers, Sue, Yvonne, Alberta and Betty; Hospice of Cincinnati, Dr. Richard Zettler and Dr. Chad Fogt. Visitation will be Sunday, August 9, 2015 at the Colligan Funeral Home from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Monday, August 10, 2015 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church presided by Father James Wedig. Burial will follow in St. Stephen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Queen of Peace Catholic Church or Hospice of Cincinnati.
