Merle F. Tendam, age 89, of Hamilton, passed away Friday, November 9, 2012. He was born in Hamilton on August 28, 1923, the son of William and Bertha (Getz) Tendam. He was a 1941 graduate of Hamilton High School. Cpl. Tendam, US Marine Corps, 5th Division, served His country with honor from January 25, 1943 to March 30, 1946., served in the Asiatic Pacific Area from September 4, 1944 to March 12, 1946 where he had participated in action against the enemy on Iwo Jima from February 19, 1945 to March 16, 1945. On July 20,1957 he was united in marriage to Mary Lou Birdzell. Merle had been a valued employee of the US Post Office. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Tendam; two sons, David Feix of TX. and Don (Kathy) Feix of Burnside, Ky.; two grandchildren, Kenny J. (Stacey) Feix and Gregory Feix; two great-grandchildren, Gauge Feix and Taylor Feix; one sister, Elaine Thompson of Hamilton; three brothers, Harold (Esther) Tendam of Port Charlotte, FL., Jack Tendam of Kittanning, PA and Warren (Geri) Tendam of Hamilton; nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Donald, Calvin and Thomas Tendam. Visitation will be at the Colligan Funeral Home on Tuesday from 10:00 AM to time of service at twelve noon. Burial in Rose Hill Burial Park.
