Oneida Ostrand

Oneida (Murphy) South, age 89, passed away on December 31, 2018. Oneida was born in Hamilton on January 8, 1929. She was the fifth child of Alfred and Nanny (Laws) Murphy. In 1948 Oneida married Norman L. South. They were married for almost 20 years and had two children, Gretchen Marlene and Kenneth. Oneida worked many different jobs over the course of her life but they almost always involved helping others. She worked with the sick as a nurse’s assistant for many years and provided in home support to elderly. In her free time, Oneida could often be found where there was a song playing. She loved nothing more than country music, a beautiful dress and a dance floor. She was a member of the Moose Lodge for many years and it was one of her favorite places to dance. Oneida remarried twice. She was married to Paul A. Sick and Owen Van Ostrand. She was preceded in death by all three of her husbands. Oneida is survived by three of her five grandchildren; Kelly M. Houser, Amy R. (Frank) Monaco and Kimberly M. Davis. In addition to her husbands, Oneida was preced in death by her parents, all of her siblings, her daughter, Gretchen Marlene South Davis, her son, Kenny South, her granddaughter Kristy M. Houser and her grandson, Ryan K. South. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 15, 2018 at the Colligan Funeral Home from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM. Entombment in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to your local church.
