Richard A. Huls

Richard A. Huls, of Indianapolis formerly of Hamilton passed away on November 27, 2023 at the age of 87. He was born on March 5, 1936 in Hamilton Ohio the only child of Eugene "Gene" and Celia (nee Rapp) Huls. He joined the US Army and served from June 25, 1956 to June 24, 1959 serving 1 year and 4 months of his 3 years was served in Foreign service. His dad introduced him to Colleen West, a waitress at a local restraunt and she wasn't impressed at first with Richard however, he turned on the charm and they later married. Richard worked for Heidelberg Distributors for many years until his retirement. When he wasn't working he enjoyed spending time at his uncles' cabin, which later became his cabin, which sat on 26 acres. He enjoyed having "Boy's Poker nights" there and also enjoyed the privacy. Richard also joined many of the lodges in Hamilton: Amvets, American Legion, VFW, Eagles, Elks, Moose and the Monkies. He was proud of belonging to each of the organizations and the many friends he made along the way. Richard and Colleen enjoyed traveling to listen to Country music and Blue Grass Music. The Grand Ole Oprey was a favorite place to go with friends and family. George Jones was a favorite of his and he never missed an oportunity to listen to him. Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife Colleen Huls; parents: Gene and Celia Huls; and his many in-laws on the West family side. Survivors include his many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. We can't end this obituary without saying "OSU - Go Bucks!" Which was a favorite saying of Richards. Visitation will be held at Colligan Funeral Home, 437 S. Third Street, Hamilton, OH on Friday, December 1, 2023 from 11 am until time of the service at 1 pm. Burial will follow at St. Stephens Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the US ARMY. In Lieu of flowers memorials to American Legion, AMVETS, or VFW.
