Robert “Bob” Edward Roemer, 67, originally of Oxford, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2014 at Somerset Autumn Healthcare, Somerset, Ohio where he was a resident the last four years. Born November 28, 1946 in Hamilton, Ohio, Bob was the the son of Ernest (Ernie) and Jane Roemer. Bob developed his love of trains while spending time as a child at the family business, Roemer Hardware in Lindenwald, Ohio. He was a 1964 graduate of Talawanda High School.
Bob was a friend to many, known for his quiet humor and gentle compassion. He loved the outdoors and fulfilled this passion by working at Hueston Woods State Park for over 30 years, retiring in 1997 as Assistant Park Manager. During his tenure, he was instrumental in resurrecting maple syrup production at the park, which is still in process today. In his spare time, Bob spent timeless hours working at his farm business, Stony Run Farm Market and Greenhouse where he grew vegetables and pumpkins and hosted many farm festivals. Bob’s friends and family were often recruited and quick to help with these ventures. Bob was fond of antique tractors and was a member of several Antique Farm Machinery Clubs and expanded his talents by making homemade donuts at many of the local farm shows. One of Bob’s greatest pastimes was participating in the Butler County Fair. He spent many years as Superintendent of the Agricultural Hall and then served on the Butler County Fair Board for 10 years, retiring after his stroke in 1998. Bob was a member of the McGonigle-Millville United Methodist Church.
Bob’s treasured moments were spent with his family. He is survived by two daughters, Julie (Mark) Paxton of Somerset, Ohio and Angie (Brian) Black of Amanda, Ohio and four grandchildren, Maria, Jarod, Jake and Katie; brothers, Richard (Linda) Roemer and Tim (Denise) Roemer; sisters Marguerite (Ron) Plasman and Yvonne (Dave) Smith and nieces and nephews, Dick Jr., Matthew, Gretchen, Jodi, Courtney and Meredith. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Jane Roemer and nephew, Brian Plasman.
A special thankyou to all the Nurses and Aides at Somerset Autumn Healthcare that became part of the family during Bob’s last four year stay.
