Virginia Ann (DeDe) Wertz, age 87, passed away at Hospice of Hamilton on Monday, June 1, 2015. Virginia was born in Hamilton on July 26, 1927 to Thurman K. and Virginia (Gaughan) Simmons. Mrs. Wertz was educated in St. Mary School and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1945. She was employed on the sorting line at Champion papers from 1951-1964 and retired in 1988 from Sorg Paper Company in Middletown, Ohio. On Apil 24, 1954 she was married to Richard Wertz in St. Mary Rectory and he proceded her in death on March 14, 2006. She was a longtime member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 1069 and the UCT. She was a member of St. Peter In Chains Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, playing Bingo and in her younger years, she bowled in several bowling leagues. Her greatest joy was her great-great nieces and nephews, whether it was a swim party, ball game or school activity. She is survived by a devoted niece, Debbie (Ed) Schellenbach, nephews, Dan Roettger, Jim (Kay) Roettger and Larry (Louellen) Eve, many great nieces and nephews: Kristy (Ron) Neely, Michael (Eva) Schellenbach, Bill (Andrea) Schellenbach, Jeff (Dawn) Raimer, Amy (Bill) Brown, Bryan (Beriozka) Greeley and Amanda (Todd) Barger, Sheri (Cory) Salyer, Jennifer Carder and Larry (Jennifer) Eve Jr..Also survived by nieces and nephews, Ruth (Joe) Stanton, Donna (Richard) Mardis, Mary (Tom) Brunner, Jean (Ron) King, Midge (Ben) Morse, Gerri (Johnnie) Sullivan, Kenny (Debbie) Lipphardt, Victor Bartels, Helen (Earl) Adkins and Sandy (Wayne) Miles, plus great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Ruth Simmons, Louise Simmons, Jane Roettger and Lillian Taylor and nephew, Bill Roettger. Visitation will be Thursday, June 4, 2015 at St. Peter In Chains Catholic Church from 10:00 AM til time of service at 11:00 AM. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Hamilton or St. Jude Hospital. Special thanks to the wonderful staff of Hospice of Hamilton.
