Donald L Henes, Jr.

Donald L. Henes, Jr., beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away at his home surrounded by family on February 2, 2024, at the age of 82.  

Donald was born on August 13, 1941, in Hamilton, Ohio to Donald L. Sr., and Ruth (nee Hoffman) Henes.  Donald served in the US Army and after getting back from leave and before leaving for the Air Force he went to Bob’s Cafe with friends and met his future wife Sue Ellen Taggart.  

They were married on July 24, 1965, and she followed him to California.  Don and Sue were blessed with two children Donald L III and Rebecca Sue.  Donald joined the Hamilton Fire Department in 1968 and dedicated his life to serving the community until his retirement in 1997.  

During retirement he took on the role of Papoo to Megan Rebecca and Ryan Michael.  He would babysit, attend their ball games and was their chauffeur and loved every minute of the time he spent with them.  Family vacations to the beach made many wonderful memories together for the Henes family.  When he wasn’t with his family he could be found at his favorite local watering holes.  He also enjoyed playing poker with his closest friends, The Sunshine Social Club.  

Donald will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 58 years Sue E. (Taggart) Henes; dear son: Donald L. Henes III (Annette); cherished grandchildren: Megan Rebecca and Ryan Michael Henes; sister-in-law: Carol Taggart and brother -in-law: Phillip (Candy) Taggart.

Donald was preceded in death by his beautiful daughter Rebecca Sue Henes; parents: Donald L Sr. and Ruth (Hoffman) Henes; and brothers: Leroy and Bill Henes. 

Graveside services will be held at St. Stephens Catholic Cemetery on Monday, February 12, 2024, at 1:30 pm with Military Honors to follow.
